Waitangi Day, February 6. Commemorates the Treaty of Waitangi between the Maoris and the British, signed in 1840. Also known as New Zealand Day.
Labour Day, last Monday in October (Oct 25, 2004).
ANZAC Day, April 25. A holiday in Australia and New Zealand which honors all who died in wars, and memorializes in particular the troops who were slaughtered at Gallipoli in World War I. ANZAC is an acronym for the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps.
